Soph Gibson's materiality-led practice aims to distil the tensions embodied by their somatic experiences as a genderqueer person with chronic illness. Being explores the inherent agency and characteristics of materials that have visual affinities with the internal architecture of the body. The artist's personal lived experience is investigated through abstracted forms that become surrogate bodies for pain and evoke empathy.
